Between 1974 - 1980 BR introduced a heavily constructed 50ft. long steel carrier, the BBA. 550 were built. some were equipped with cradles for coils and later some were equipped with telescopic covers as BXA or BWA.
Later still the floors were modified in various ways and some had new Thrall swing motion bogies which required a hand brake wheel on the side of the wagon.
