From 1967 BR dedicated open merchandise wagons to China clay traffic from Cornwall to Stoke and Kent. They were noticeable as they were possibly the only vacuum braked open merchandise equipped with roller bearings. Referred to as Clay liner trains they were replaced in the early 1980s by a specially designed covered hoppers. This collection is restricted to pre-nationalisation wagons and includes a few transferred to the engineers and for internal use. There were BR wagons similarly used and in collection https://paulbartlett.zenfolio.com/brclayliner
