Small bogie tank wagons were always unusual in Britain. Murgatroyds owned a series of small liquid chlorine tank wagons which were later owned and operated by British Petroleum Chemicals. These photographs represent the 4 air braked wagons of Monobloc construction were added to the vacuum braked wagons (see separate collection). They carried about 42 tons but had very high tare weights of 26.600 tonnes. These wagons were stored out of use from 10/83 and in 1991 bought by Allied Steel and Wire at Cardiff for conversion to internal use, being stored in the adjacent Tidal Sidings. A history of these wagons has been published Fidczuk, Peter (2007) Gas by Rail Part 3: Murgatroyd’s Railway Archive No. 15 p25 – 42 + back cover.
