Reach wagons were used when there was a need to collect wagons from loading or unloading places where it may be dangerous for a locomotive to approach too close - such as petroleum depots, explosives etc. These photographs show a number of Plate wagons painted and lettered for this use. All lacked continous brakes but had through pipes - air, vacuum or both. I think they are in engineers Gulf red. For modellers they are easily modified from the 4 and 7mm Parkside kits.
