Introduced in 1966 for Associated British Maltsters Ltd and Scottish Malt Distillers and known as Whisky covhops. There were four batches, the first three built with 8 plate UIC suspension, altered in 1968 to 11 plate. Only those 35 for ABM remained on UIC suspension,, others all BSC pedestals. 5810-924 became 7500-614 Rootes Pressing 1966 110 SMD; 5 ABM 6025 - 54 became 7615 - 44 Powell Duffyn 1967 ABM 6055 - 154 became 7645 - 744 Powell Duffyn 1967-8 SMD 6185 - 6239 became 7745 - 99 BREL Doncaster 1971 SMD BSC pedestal suspension when new The well known advertising hoardings were all removed by September 1973 Later the others were variously repainted and fitted with pedestal suspension. 30 wagons from the final batch were refurbished with air brake for Grainflow, which were later used on Alumina traffic in Scotland, as were many vacuum braked examples.
