Founded in 1863 by 1967 the joint works were part of British Steel Co. Mainly famed for the production of Pipes, with a large fleet of pipe and tube wagons allocated to the traffic. A public road ran through the site and a hurried visit on the Silver Jubilee bank holiday weekend (when not a soul was seen) allowed photography of the internal user fleet. Another followed in the later 1980s when there was far less to see.
