Associated Octel operated from Stanlow on the Manchester Ship Canal providing additives for petrol etc. It served many places in Europe and had a fleet of tank wagons registered to pass on the ferries. They were kept in good condition and underwent modifications, including down grading for use internally in Britain (see https://paulbartlett.zenfolio.com/associatedocteltankwagon) so their history is complex. As with all other hazardous freight the movement was killed off by the opening of the Chunnel and soon afterwards AO ceased using rail!
