These wagons, in their original guise, disappeared from the UK scene around 2000; however, a number have recently (2013) reappeared as timber carriers with Colas Rail. The sliding hoods have been removed, and substantial stanchions fitted, for the new rôle. Unusually, they've been give Dutch (54) registration, and the ends have been repainted in the original Cargowaggon bright blue.
There were two wagons in the original build that differed from those illustrated. The prototype wagon had a much deeper horizontal rib at the bottom of the hoods, almost a third of the depth of the flat face of the sides. The other had a three-element hood, with the central part being slightly taller and wider- unfortunately, on the sole occasion I saw it, the numbers were concealed below the wall at Dover Town Yard.
