Ingot moulds were heavy castings so carrying them in the high payload iron ore tipplers was sensible. This began in c1975. The bottom of the wagon had a layer of ballast. As the moulds were craned into the wagons this was a dangerous operation for the person guiding them into position, so later some were modified to have either an easy escape route or allowed adjustment of load from outside the wagon- large holes cut in the side.
