The LNER appears to have been the first railway Company to introduce a multi-purpose engineers wagon capable of carrying 60ft. rails, ballast and sleepers. They were 64ft. 6in over headstocks with 5ft. 6in, wheelbase bogies at 46ft centres. The underframing had several styles and BR converted some to have the ends partly or completely cut down, all sides removed etc as well as to the Morris tracklaying train.
