In 1988-9 the frames from just 5 merry go round hopper wagons were used to make a box open wagon - a rare design at that time. They had the addition of a through vacuum pipe to permit working with the vacuum braked fleets in use in South Wales. Later they were renumbered 392000-2004 and later still the vacuum pipe was removed as MAA.
