A large colliery and washery visited several times in the 1980s. The washery remains open, with an open cast mine alongside. In 2007 the site handles approx 900,000 tonnes of coal per year. 450,000 coming from the Selar site, 350,000 from Nant Helen site and approx. 100,000 from Margam Of the 900,000 tonnes 500 - 600,000 tonnes goes to Aberthaw Power station, 150,000 tonnes to Domestic customers, 150,000 to specialised industrial markets and 50 - 70,000 to export. About 200,000 tonnes is despatched by road and the remainder by rail.
