The resurrection by Chris Leigh of Black Dog Halt reminded me to post the Parrot wagons. 25 of these were initially to carry very lightly crated Brewster aircraft from the USA. The RAF rejected these (they were diverted to Singapore). Finding photos of PARROTs being used during WW2 are difficult to comeby, but they appear to have carried aircraft parts in crates, or apparently unpacked - quite probably damaged aircraft returning to workshops. They were used on BR including 10 which were transferred to Cable carrying wagons for the Power Supply section of SR. The few that were built and registered GWR were of rivetted construction in contrast with the others which were welded.
