The introduction of mechanised arnaments meant that large numbers of bogie flat wagons were introduced in WW1 and a revised design was built in WW2. Many went to the railway Companies and later BR and private firms, whilst others stayed with the Min of Defence until an airbraked new design was produced for them. BR converted some to two styles of coil carriers.
