Just a single batch of 50 'Pilchards' was built at Butterley for BR. The origin of the design appears similar to LNE and their predecessors but I am unaware of any similar earlier wagon. Being unfitted they went out of use during the early 1980s and they appear to have been allocated to the ER/NER. NOTE - all colour scans are highest quality I can do.
