An auto ballaster is a set of purpose built hopper wagons that accurately lay and distribute ballast onto a track formation. Each hopper has controlled discharge doors with additional chutes to direct and regulate the flow of the ballast as it is unloaded onto the track.
New build wagons of similar design followed in 2000 & 1
