In the later days of BR a need for air braked wagons for ballast, spoil etc was answered in various ways by purchase of previously privately owned wagons. The Limpets were ex TRL and NACO aggregate box opens - themselves new bodies in the later 1980s on tank wagon frames from the mid 1960s. After privatisation they stayed with EWS, so were returned to the Revenue fleet. See also
